The workbook is structured across 5 parts:
Part 1 — What Culture Actually Is A clear, honest explanation of what culture really means in a dental practice — not a mission statement, not a values poster, but what actually happens when no one is watching. Covers the direct link between culture and measurable outcomes: staff turnover, team engagement, patient experience, and practice performance. Includes the most important insight: culture starts with the leader, and the most powerful culture-setting tool you have is your own behaviour.
Part 2 — Culture Audit A 10-statement culture audit rated 1–5, covering the cultural practices that matter most in a dental team — respect under pressure, new team member support, difficult conversations, recognition, standards consistency, psychological safety, shared purpose, team meeting quality, workplace satisfaction, and leadership modelling. Includes reflection prompts to identify the strongest current cultural practices and the 2–3 areas most needing attention in the next 3 months.
Part 3 — Defining Your Practice Values Five ready-to-use value cards — Excellence, Respect, Accountability, Growth, and Care — each with a plain-language definition and 5 specific, observable behaviours that demonstrate the value in day-to-day practice life. Includes a team values template for defining the practice's own values in its own language, with space to record the specific behaviours that will make each value visible and real.
Part 4 — Team Workshop: Bringing Culture to Life A complete 60-minute team workshop the PM can run with the full team at a team meeting or dedicated culture session. Four structured activities: what kind of practice do we want to work in (individual reflection and group sharing), defining our commitments (agreeing values and behaviours in the team's own language), stop/start/keep (identifying what to change and what to protect), and personal commitments and accountability (each team member makes one specific commitment to the team). Produces concrete, team-owned commitments rather than top-down directives.
Part 5 — Living the Culture Day-to-Day The daily and weekly culture habits that build culture in the hundreds of small moments between the big ones — specific recognition at every one-on-one, addressing values-inconsistent behaviour immediately, starting every team meeting with a win, weekly personal check-ins with each team member, and celebrating milestones. Includes a quarterly culture check-in process to track progress against the Part 2 audit scores and share improvements with the team.
