A Practical Guide and Workshop Workbook for Building a Deliberate, Values-Driven Team Culture in a Dental Practice
Every dental practice has a culture. The question is whether it was designed deliberately — or whether it evolved by default, shaped by whoever had the most influence, by the habits that formed under pressure, and by the behaviours that were tolerated or rewarded over time.
The Team Culture & Values Workbook 2026 is a practical guide and workshop workbook for building a deliberate, values-driven team culture in a dental practice. It is not a motivational poster or a list of aspirational adjectives. It is a working tool — with a culture audit, ready-to-use value cards, a structured 60-minute team workshop, and daily habits for the PM to build and sustain the culture they want. Designed to be used with the team right now, not filed away for later.
The workbook is structured across 5 parts:
Part 1 — What Culture Actually Is A clear, honest explanation of what culture really means in a dental practice — not a mission statement, not a values poster, but what actually happens when no one is watching. Covers the direct link between culture and measurable outcomes: staff turnover, team engagement, patient experience, and practice performance. Includes the most important insight: culture starts with the leader, and the most powerful culture-setting tool you have is your own behaviour.
Part 2 — Culture Audit A 10-statement culture audit rated 1–5, covering the cultural practices that matter most in a dental team — respect under pressure, new team member support, difficult conversations, recognition, standards consistency, psychological safety, shared purpose, team meeting quality, workplace satisfaction, and leadership modelling. Includes reflection prompts to identify the strongest current cultural practices and the 2–3 areas most needing attention in the next 3 months.
Part 3 — Defining Your Practice Values Five ready-to-use value cards — Excellence, Respect, Accountability, Growth, and Care — each with a plain-language definition and 5 specific, observable behaviours that demonstrate the value in day-to-day practice life. Includes a team values template for defining the practice's own values in its own language, with space to record the specific behaviours that will make each value visible and real.
Part 4 — Team Workshop: Bringing Culture to Life A complete 60-minute team workshop the PM can run with the full team at a team meeting or dedicated culture session. Four structured activities: what kind of practice do we want to work in (individual reflection and group sharing), defining our commitments (agreeing values and behaviours in the team's own language), stop/start/keep (identifying what to change and what to protect), and personal commitments and accountability (each team member makes one specific commitment to the team). Produces concrete, team-owned commitments rather than top-down directives.
Part 5 — Living the Culture Day-to-Day The daily and weekly culture habits that build culture in the hundreds of small moments between the big ones — specific recognition at every one-on-one, addressing values-inconsistent behaviour immediately, starting every team meeting with a win, weekly personal check-ins with each team member, and celebrating milestones. Includes a quarterly culture check-in process to track progress against the Part 2 audit scores and share improvements with the team.
Who this is for: Practice Managers who want to build a team culture that is deliberate, consistent, and genuinely felt — not just described. Practice Owners who are tired of high turnover, low engagement, and a team that does the minimum rather than the best. Any practice that has values on the wall but knows, honestly, that the day-to-day reality does not always match them.
📄 Format: 8-page editable Microsoft Word document (.docx) — complete the practice-specific fields and use the workshop activities and reflection prompts directly with your team. Designed to be printed and used as a working document, not read once and filed.
